First Friday and Art Detour 25 on Grand Ave.

Last weekend was huge for art in downtown Phoenix. First Friday and Art Detour gave art fans a chance to check out galleries, art studios, tours and hands-on activities for free all weekend. I was honored to have my art on display at the Public (Art) Hanging at Oasis on Grand. It was a real treat to be exhibited with 40 other local artists. Bert and I attended the Artist's Opening Reception on Friday night and  enjoyed the artwork, music and wine. We were so happy to spend time with friends who stopped by to support me. Thank you!

Me and Sadie posing next to my "Into the Trees" artwork on display. Sadie is my friend's daughter and my adorable art agent for the evening. She wanted to be by my side for the evening and happily told people visiting what a nice painting I made and pointed to me out to them as the artist. Thanks, Sadie!

Great music set a wonderful vibe to the evening.

On Sunday, We headed back to Grand Ave with our kids in tow. They were looking forward to seeing their mom's art on the wall! It was really cute how proud they were of me.

Here's our new friend and fellow Oasis on Grand artist, Jason Nye with his amazing acrylic splatter painting "Venice II".

This portrait of Lincoln was wonderful. It was uncanny how it looked so free and effortless up close and super detailed and perfect from afar. Ethan is learning about our presidents in school so, he was happy to see President Lincoln!

Hudson enjoyed a lampwork glass bead making demo by Deb Rich of Deb's Glass Designs.

Here's a collage of visual delights, we especially enjoyed the Mutant Pinata exhibit! We headed down Grand Ave with a couple more gallery stops before having a picnic and calling it a day.

It was a really nice way to spend a Sunday. I hope you get out and explore art in your neck of the woods. And take the kids! They really love it and it gives them a new perspective on just about everything.

slowing emerging from the fog

It's three weeks into the new year and many more since my last post. Sorry about that friends. I didn't intend to take a blogging break but, I guess it was needed . I have a way of simply ignoring something when it's not working for me at the moment. Not one of my best qualities but, surely one that helps save my sanity from time to time. After a wonderful holiday season of creating, selling and celebrating we had a lovely visit from my family (parents and 2 sisters) last week. It was so great to have them all here. I love and miss them so very much. After their departure my husband and I came down with a cold that wiped us out and we have been hibernating since last Friday. I am starting to feel better and am slowing emerging out of the fog of the last few months. I hope that you had a wonderful holiday season and rang in new year with much happiness!

hissyfits hullabaloo handmade market 11/11!

I have been drinking lots of coffee, creating and preparing for the past few weeks for this event! I will have original artwork, art prints, jewelry and hand painted stones available for purchase this Sunday at Hissyfits Hullababloo Handmade Market.

I love this handmade boutique! I go every year as a shopper and am always delighted with the gifts I find there. This year will be my first time as a vendor and as excited as I am to show my work, I am just as excited to shop! Are you coming? With over 70 vendors, you're sure to find some unique holiday gifts, plus you'll be supporting local owned businesses! What could be better than that?

Here are a couple of the booths I'm looking forward to seeing. Remember there will be OVER 70 VENDORS so, this is just a small sampling of the goodness you will find.

If you know my son Hudson, you know he LOVES Desert Baby's tie shirts.
As a matter of fact, he just asked me this morning when he will have a new one.

art every day month

November is Art Every Day Month with Leah Piken Kolidas! I participated last year and loved it so much I made a promise to myself to do it again this year.  It's amazing to see where you art takes you when you practice every day. You can see what I created in 2011 here.

I'm a longtime blog reader and participator of Creative Every Day but, half way through this year I had to let go of the monthly prompts and give attention to some other projects I had on my plate. I promised myself that I would, for sure, do Art Every Day Month this year to connect with the wonderful art community Leah has created. Looking back, AEDM 2011 propelled me into making art on a very regular basis. I am so grateful for that and I can't believe a year has passed already! I am going to share my daily art on instagram (@kristenfagan) and twitter (@creativestash) and will using the hastag #aedm2012. I will also post my adventures here when I can, I'm thinking it'll be a weekly roundup. Let's see what transpires!

autumn vines knitted bangle

It's finished! This design has been in progress (mostly in my head) since June. A big thank you to my friends on the Creative Stash facebook page for helping me choose which art print to use as the centerpiece! "Autumn Leaves" was the clear winner and compliments the antique bezel by Kerri Fuhr beautifully.

I really love the look of knitted jewelry, it has so much gorgeous texture! I still can't believe I made a piece of jewelry that looks this complicated. It's really not though. I am sharing how I created this knitted bangle in the April issue of Bead Trends! Take a peek and let me know what you think.
